1. Automatic movement
Your BELVARD is powered by a Miyota 9015 automatic mechanical movement, a precision Japanese calibre chosen for its reliability, accuracy, and everyday wearability.
How your movement stays wound
- The watch winds itself through the natural motion of your wrist during daily wear
- Wearing the watch for 8 to 10 hours a day will keep it fully wound under normal conditions
- If the watch stops after not being worn, unscrew the crown and gently wind it manually by turning the crown clockwise 20 to 30 times before wearing. Screw the crown back down fully afterwards
- If storing for an extended period, wind the watch manually once every few weeks to keep the movement lubricants from settling
Power reserve
The Miyota 9015 has an approximate power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. If the watch has not been worn for more than two days it may require manual winding before resuming normal timekeeping.
Timekeeping accuracy
The Miyota 9015 is rated to an accuracy of ±10 seconds per day from the factory. Real world performance is typically within ±5 seconds per day. If your watch suddenly begins gaining several minutes per day rather than seconds, please refer to the magnetisation section below.
2. Setting the time & date
Your BELVARD features a screw-down crown with two operating positions. The crown must be unscrewed before any adjustment and screwed back down fully afterwards. Please follow the steps below carefully.
Unscrewing the crown
- Gently rotate the crown anticlockwise until it releases from the threads
- The crown will spring out slightly to the winding position once released
Setting the date
- After unscrewing, gently pull the crown to the first position: one click out
- Rotate the crown to advance the date to the correct day
- Push the crown back in and screw it down fully once the date is set
Setting the time
- After unscrewing, gently pull the crown to the second position: two clicks out
- Rotate the crown to set the correct time
- Push the crown back in and screw it down fully once the time is set
After any adjustment, always ensure the crown is screwed down fully before wearing the watch or exposing it to water. Do not overtighten: screw down until you feel natural resistance.
3. Water resistance
Your BELVARD is tested and rated to 10 ATM (100 metres / 10 BAR) water resistance. This means it is built for real world daily use including handwashing, rain, and casual swimming.
| Activity | Suitability |
|---|---|
| Daily wear and handwashing | Suitable |
| Rain and light splashes | Suitable |
| Casual swimming and snorkelling | Suitable |
| Hot showers and saunas | Not recommended |
| Scuba diving or high pressure water sports | Not suitable |
Water resistance is not permanent
Gaskets and seals degrade naturally over time. BELVARD recommends a water resistance test every 2 years as part of routine servicing. Avoid exposing the watch to soaps, sunscreen, or perfume as these can degrade seals over time.
4. Magnetisation
Magnetic fields are one of the most common causes of timekeeping issues in mechanical watches and are often misdiagnosed as movement failure.
How to identify magnetisation
If your watch suddenly begins gaining significantly more time than usual, several minutes per day rather than seconds, magnetisation is the most likely cause. The hairspring inside the movement can become magnetised, causing its coils to stick together and the watch to run fast.
Common sources of magnetic fields to avoid
- Smartphone screens and backs
- Laptop keyboards and magnetic laptop cases
- Tablet smart covers and magnetic bag clasps
- Induction cooktops
- Bluetooth speakers and audio equipment
- Airport security scanners
Demagnetisation is a quick, inexpensive procedure carried out by any competent watchmaker using a demagnetiser tool, typically completed in seconds. If you suspect your watch has been magnetised, contact us at service@belvardwatch.com and we will advise on next steps.
5. Care & handling
- Avoid strong impacts, drops, or knocks: severe shocks can affect timekeeping accuracy and in extreme cases damage internal components
- Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (see section 4 above)
- Clean the case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, sweat, and surface residue
- If the watch has been exposed to salt water or chlorine, rinse gently with clean fresh water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth; ensure the crown is screwed down fully first
- Do not use chemicals, solvents, abrasive materials, or ultrasonic cleaners on the watch
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures: both can affect movement lubricants and the dial over time
- Do not apply perfume, cologne, or sunscreen directly onto the watch: these can damage seals and affect dial printing over time
6. Storage
When your BELVARD is not being worn:
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity
- Avoid storing near magnetic sources such as speakers, electronic devices, or magnetic closures
- Keep in the original BELVARD watch box when not in use
- If storing for more than a few weeks, wind the watch manually every few weeks to prevent movement lubricants from settling
- Avoid storing in airtight plastic containers: moisture can become trapped and affect the seals over time
7. Recommended servicing
A mechanical watch benefits from regular professional attention. BELVARD recommends a water resistance test every 2 years and a full movement service every 3 to 5 years.
